Commentary: Why did N.Y.'s Republican congressmembers vote to take health care access away from thousands of New Yorkers?

Imagine your local health center shutting its doors — no warning, no alternative, just gone.
That’s the future that Republican members of Congress, including every single one from New York, voted for. With the stroke of a pen, they’ve moved to “defund” Planned Parenthood, threatening to close nearly 200 health centers nationwide and rob more than 1.1 million people of access to care, including thousands of New Yorkers.

This wasn’t an abstract policy debate. It was a direct assault on the health and lives of people right here at home — in the Bronx, in Buffalo, in our cities and rural towns, in underserved communities across the state. These lawmakers voted to “defund” Planned Parenthood, knowing full well what that means: shuttered clinics and communities left without essential, life-saving care.
