State lawmakers and the governor have an opportunity to make a smart and critical investment in our workforce and economy by allocating $90 million over three years to support the federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit in their upcoming budget. This commitment would foster a more inclusive labor market, shorten the unemployment line and generate long-term economic growth.
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit is a federal tax credit available to employers who hire from groups that historically struggle to find steady employment, including veterans, people with disabilities, long-term unemployed individuals and those receiving public assistance.
