Americans are witnessing paramilitary-type tactics on our streets that should shock our collective national conscience. We’re seeing masked federal agents pulling people off the streets and out of our courtrooms, including immigrants who are fully complying with the legal asylum and immigration process. And the agents are doing this without identifying themselves or presenting a judicial warrant. The result is sowing chaos, fear and confusion, while undermining public trust by poisoning interactions between immigrant communities and law enforcement. It runs contrary to the principle of due process guaranteed under the Constitution.

The paramilitary secret-police tactics being used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents evoke authoritarian regimes in foreign nations, not the United States of America.........
