Early in his long and colorful political career, after a particularly brutal stretch of give and take with the opposition that did not leave him unsullied, the late state Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno was asked how he felt about his chances for reelection, still months away.

That could be New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo speaking emphatically at the moment, himself no stranger to a long and colorful political career, or to not being left unsullied by it.
All of us, upstate and down, are about to a witness a breathtaking political comeback, or a last gasp before tumbling into oblivion. Gone at last will be those presidential aspirations. Or not. We’ve paid the ticket to watch this over years and years of eye-rolling up close to that career, and it promises to be an exhilarating two months before the general election. This is it. Do it now or disappear.
