Commentary:  EmPIRE Worker Protection Act will help New Yorkers fight wage theft

New York has some of the strongest worker protection laws and regulations of any state in the nation — which is crucial right now as Donald Trump, Elon Musk and a Republican Congress attack labor law enforcement, labor unions and workers rights.

To ensure our strong laws are enforced, help workers under attack and cement real labor protections for the working class, the Legislature must pass the EmPIRE Worker Protection Act as part of the state budget.

Workers are being left unprotected as federal labor laws and antidiscrimination protections are abandoned. Trump has already moved to dismantle the National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and staffing cuts of up to 90% have been proposed at the U.S. Department of Labor, including in critical divisions that enforce worker........
