Commentary: Government must get ahead of AI before more Americans lose their jobs

New Yorkers know the pain of job losses all too well. Between 1969 and 1999, upstate New York lost 52% of its manufacturing jobs.
New York’s workers are bracing for this same kind of pain again. Last year, over 1,300 New Yorkers were displaced after Sumitomo Rubber shuttered its western New York tire plant. Just this past spring, Plug Power laid off hundreds of New Yorkers from its Albany County plant.
