Words have always been America’s sharpest dagger. No one understood that better than Thomas Jefferson, whose elegant prose and consummate turns of phrase astounded our forebears. Independence, he recognized, could be declared in the form of a letter, in a compilation of words written so eloquently and potently that the world’s most powerful monarch would have to take notice.
The moment has come to rekindle our inner Jefferson. With words — not fists or bullets — it is time we declare our independence.

When a free and self-governing people find themselves bound to a leader whose actions undermine the foundations of liberty, it becomes not only their right, but their solemn duty, to declare the causes that compel them to reject such governance.
