Letters Nov. 27: Prince Rupert port; get parking spot before car

Premier David Eby has objected to an agreement for an oil pipeline to B.C’s northwest coast, instead favouring expanding the Trans Mountain pipeline system even more.

He ignores that there will be even more oil tankers carrying dilbit across multiple passenger ferry lanes, and contending with heavy recreational, cruise ship, cargo, and orca and salmon traffic.

Eby, as former prime minister Justin Trudeau did, ignores the exhaustive Environment and Fisheries Canada study, “Potential Pacific Coast Oil Ports: A comparative environmental risk analysis,” that determined Prince Rupert was the safest of all 19 locations evaluated for an oil port on Canada’s west coast. The Westridge Marine Terminal for the Trans Mountain pipeline was determined to be the least safe.

The B.C. tanker moratorium and the Trans Mountain expansion boondoggle were both little more than incompetent “green” political stunts by Trudeau — a dropout from engineering at Polytechnique Montréal who also did not complete a master’s degree in environmental geography at McGill.
