Comment: Point Roberts should be Canadian, so let's go for it

A commentary by a Victoria resident.

Given Donald Trump’s rhetoric about the U.S. annexing Canada, it’s only fair that we get ahead of the curve and stake our own claim — starting with a logical and entirely reasonable acquisition: Point Roberts, Washington, United States of America.

Point Roberts is an American exclave, cut off from the rest of the U.S. by geography but deeply connected to Canada by necessity.

To get there from the U.S. mainland, Americans must cross into Canada, drive through B.C., and then re-enter the U.S.

This is about as convenient as taking a ferry to your own backyard.

The town depends on Canada for everything from groceries and electricity to emergency services — so why not make it........
