New Delhi: What can be called a growing curve of electoral violence unleashed on Opposition leaders during the Himanta Biswa Sarma regime in Assam, senior state Congress leader and member of Parliament from Nagaon, Pradyut Bordoloi, along with his party MLA Sibamoni Bora and party spokesperson Mohsin Khan, were injured on April 27 in an attack by unidentified assailants when they were on their way to attend a meeting for the upcoming panchayat polls.

Panchayat polls in all the 27 districts of Assam are set to take place in two phases – on May 2 and May 7. This is the first time the polls are taking place after the delimitation exercise of the assembly constituencies in the state. The counting of votes would take place on May 11.

As per media reports quoting Nagaon Police about the April 27 incident, Bordoloi along with the others, escaped with minor injuries but their vehicles were heavily damaged by iron rods and hockey sticks.

An official from the Dhing police station of the district told Deccan Herald that the incident took place at Upar-Dumdumia village when the senior Congress leader along with party workers were moving from one campaign meeting to another.
