The Times of Israel is liveblogging Wednesday’s events as they happen.

The official who announced that two National Guard members shot near the White House had died of their injuries issues a new statement that he is no longer sure.

“We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates,” the governor of West Virginia, Patrick Morrisey, says on X.

Minutes earlier, Morrisey said the troops — deployed to Washington from his state — had both died.

President Donald Trump, whose policy of sending armed troops to support crime fighting in cities run by Democrats is deeply controversial, said in a statement that the two soldiers had been “critically wounded.”

A Palestinian who hurled an explosive device at Israeli soldiers during a raid in the northern West Bank town of Qabatiya this evening was shot dead, the military says.

The soldiers of the Paratroopers Brigade’s reconnaissance unit were not hurt by the bomb.

“The troops responded by opening fire and eliminating” the attacker, the military says. Palestinian media identified him as Osama Kumail, 20.

After the suspect was killed, the IDF says the soldiers found several more bombs inside his car, which were then destroyed.

The IDF statement follows a report from the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry, which said Kumail was shot in the stomach near a café in Qabatiya and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar says he is “shocked and deeply saddened” by the fatal shooting of two National Guardsmen in Washington, DC, in a post on X.

We stand in solidarity with the United States, the American people and @POTUS .

“My thoughts are with the families of the two brave National Guardsmen that were killed. We stand in solidarity with the United States, the American people and [US President Donald Trump].”

President Isaac Herzog expresses Israel’s “deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences” over the fatal shooting of two National Guardsmen in Washington, DC.

“Our deepest sympathies go to their families and loved ones,” he writes on X.
