Two right-wing activists arrested after groups try to block aid trucks reaching Gaza
At least two people were arrested Wednesday after dozens of right-wing activists attempted to block humanitarian aid trucks from reaching Gaza by obstructing the road leading to the Kerem Shalom crossing at the southern end of the Strip.
The effort to block the aid trucks was led by two right-wing groups, Tzav 9 and Israeli Reservists – Generation of Victory, which oppose the government’s recently approved resumption of aid to the Gaza Strip.
Israel had blocked all aid from entering Gaza since March 2, arguing that sufficient humanitarian assistance had entered the Strip during a six-week ceasefire and that Hamas was stealing aid, with the blockade necessary to pressure the terror group to release the dozens of hostages it is holding. In recent weeks, however, some officials in the IDF have begun warning the political leadership that the enclave was on the brink of starvation.
On Wednesday morning, Tzav 9 sent out video footage of activists walking slowly in front of the trucks to impede their progress, as well as at least one activist being arrested.
