The New Delhi Declaration 2026, adopted unanimously on the opening day of the eighteenth BRICS summit, confirmed what everyone in the room already knew. There will be no common BRICS currency. Not now. Not soon. Probably not ever. India’s Ministry of External Affairs was brief about it. “There is no proposal in the BRICS for a BRICS currency, as of now.”

What there will be is plumbing.

The declaration instructed the Payment Task Force to keep exploring interoperable cross border payment channels. Faster. Cheaper. More accessible. The words of an engineer describing a bypass to a roomful of men still connected to the mains. You will still need the pressure. You will simply reroute it through cleaner apparatus.
