In 1959, Israeli water engineer Simcha Blass and his son Yeshayahu developed a basic drip-irrigation system they called Taftefet (טפטפת), Hebrew for “dripper.” Its purpose was elegantly simple. It released small amounts of water slowly and precisely, close to where a plant could actually use it.
