There is, of course, no Mossad operation against cancer. But there is something about the way Israel approaches complex operations that may offer an unexpected lesson for one of medicine’s most difficult challenges.

A successful operation is rarely built around one person or one technology. Every element is critical. It begins with identifying the critical target or vulnerability. Then comes understanding the environment, bringing together people with different skills, developing the necessary tools, anticipating what could go wrong, and patiently waiting until all the pieces are ready to come together. Each step has to work in coordination........
