Laura Loomer is not the kind of American political figure one would normally expect to arrive in Kyiv and publicly admit that she had been misled by Russian propaganda.

She is a Jewish American activist, an outspoken Zionist, a staunch supporter of Israel and Donald Trump, and one of the most visible personalities in the radical and ultraconservative wing of the MAGA movement.

Until recently, she was also openly hostile toward Ukraine.

On July 20, 2026, however, Loomer arrived in Ukraine by train and announced that she had come to see the country with her own eyes. Her visit followed a dramatic reversal in which she acknowledged that her previous views had been shaped by a Russian information campaign.

“I’m NOT in Russia because I’m NOT A PROPAGANDIST,” she wrote after arriving.

For Ukrainians, her visit is important. For Americans, it may be politically significant. For Israelis, it should also raise an uncomfortable question: how can someone who once repeated Kremlin narratives now recognize Russia as a threat to Ukraine, the United States and Israel, while the Israeli government still avoids saying so clearly?

Why Laura Loomer matters

Loomer does not hold an official position in the White House, and she does not formally represent the US administration.

Her influence operates differently.

She has direct access to Donald Trump, regularly comments on personnel and foreign-policy decisions made by his administration, and has built a large following among Americans who distrust the mainstream media, the Democratic Party and established foreign-policy institutions.

Her social-media campaigns have repeatedly been followed by dismissals, transfers or other personnel changes within American government structures. This does not mean that she personally controls White House decisions, but it demonstrates that her messages are heard by people with real power.

That is why her arrival in Kyiv attracted considerable attention not only in Ukraine, but also in the United States.

This was not a visit by a Democratic lawmaker, a liberal journalist or a European human-rights activist. Loomer comes from precisely the part of the American political ecosystem in which Russian narratives about Ukraine have circulated for years with relatively little resistance.

Many members of that audience oppose further assistance to Kyiv. Some regard the war as irrelevant to American interests. Others have portrayed Russia as a potential conservative partner against liberalism, globalism, China or radical Islam.

Loomer herself once belonged to that camp.

From hostility toward Ukraine to an admission of error

In the past, Loomer opposed US assistance to Ukraine and repeated claims about supposed widespread Nazism in the country.

She echoed the Kremlin’s language of “denazification,” the same narrative Moscow used to justify its full-scale invasion. She argued that American taxpayers should not finance Ukraine and treated Russia far more favorably than Kyiv.
