SIR: A bold overhaul or a brewing storm?

The Election Commission has stirred up a hornet's nest again. After the controversial revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, it has announced a pan-India revision of voter lists. In an unprecedented move after two decades, the  ECI has launched a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country. Starting October 28, the exercise will unfold in 12 States and Union Territories, including politically significant regions such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, and conclude with the publication of the final rolls by February 7, 2026.
