Algeria to Become Launch Export Customer for Su-57 ‘Felon’
Algerian national media revealed that the North African country will become the launch export client for Moscow’s Su-57 fighter platform. As the fifth-generation jet’s first buyer, Algeria reportedly has procured fourteen examples of the NATO-designated “Felon.” Russia has previously struggled to sell the Su-57 due to a number of factors ranging from design shortcomings, limited production capacity, and international sanctions imposed on Russia by the West due to the ongoing Ukraine invasion. Algiers’ acquisition of the Russian jet makes sense, considering the Algerian Air Force is a frequent user of Russian aerial platforms. The North African nation already fields the MiG-25 “Foxbat,” Sukhoi Su-30 “Flanker,” Sukhoi Su-24 “Fencer,” and MiG-29 “Fulcrum” fighters.
