Mirage of Security
Terrorism incidents have been increasing in Pakistan over the past few years. There are several causes for the rise in terrorist events, of which the establishment of the Taliban interim government in Kabul and the Taliban regime’s soft corner for the TTP are the biggest reasons. Its effects are visible in the form of an increase in terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Both these provinces are lagging behind in development compared to the rest of the country and are suffering from resource deprivation. This is also seen as a trigger for terrorist incidents. That is why the Prime Minister says that peace and development in Pakistan will be possible only when all four provinces are equal partners in the race for economic development and fight terrorism together.
Certainly, the target of terrorism is Pakistan, the sanctuary is Afghanistan and the financier is India, while our actions against terrorism have been less in practice and more in words. Due to this, Pakistan ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025 with a score of 8.374. There is much talk about combating terrorism, unifying against it and eliminating it, yet the causes of terrorism are not addressed, nor are actual efforts made to avoid it.
