In news that should concern all New Yorkers and all Americans, this past Friday the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced that it was slashing its reimbursement to universities, academic medical centers and hospitals for the expenses they incur in carrying out federally funded biomedical research. The cuts, if implemented, will slow medical progress, imperil the development of life-saving drugs, devices, and diagnostics and will harm our research institutions and local communities. We at LifeSciencesNY call on the federal government to reverse this ill-considered decision.
