Trump stops NY's progress on veteran homelessness. It's unacceptable

Donald Trump claims to be fighting for our veterans. It couldn’t be further from the truth.

The second Trump administration has brought immense harm to our veteran communities in New York and across the entire country. From massive staffing cuts at the VA to slashing critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP, and amid increased efforts to privatize veteran health care, it is more important now than ever that we deliver for our nation’s heroes.

Instead, the president’s budget does the exact opposite. Weeks ago, we raised the alarm on Trump’s budget for threatening to put 1,500 formerly homeless New York veterans back on the street. Now, as the September funding deadline nears, we are amplifying our call to block these deadly proposals from the full-year budget package.

President Trump’s FY 2026 Discretionary Budget Request, as outlined by the White House, claims to protect funding for veterans. The facts tell a different story. The White House request is poised to pull the rug out from under veterans by proposing deep funding cuts and policy changes that threaten to reverse decades of progress, jeopardizing the safe, stable housing that those who protected our country need and deserve.
