Why NY's trucking industry is doubling down on sustainability

New York’s trucking industry has a long history of driving change across the state, and we’ve always meant more to New Yorkers than just deliveries.

The trucks on the road today aren’t what you remember — they’re cleaner, safer and equipped with advanced technology to reduce emissions and increase efficiency. But while the industry has evolved, one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to showing up when it matters most.

In the aftermath of 9/11, our trucks hauled debris away from Ground Zero and came right back to provide the materials to rebuild One World Trade Center. The trucking industry was there again following Hurricanes Irene and Hurricane Sandy, to haul out debris while also delivering water, fuel and critical medical supplies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our drivers worked around the clock to provide everything from groceries to vaccines to keep people healthy and our economy running. During times of need, the trucking industry is often the first on the scene and the last to leave — to provide relief and to help rebuild.

Trucks are the key engine powering our economy — 90% of communities in the state rely on trucks for their goods. And we know we have an even greater role to play. So, taking care of the communities and customers, we serve, as well as the environment in which we operate, has always been a priority.

Yet, at every turn, it seems like trucking operators are collectively taking one step forward before being forced to take two steps back. Now, instead of waiting for New York City, Albany or Washington to act, we’re........
