Pass the Credit Card Competition Act and lower costs for New Yorkers
Credit card swipe fees have become one of the most prominent and oppressive issues for New York’s small business owners. Whether it's mom and pop stores upstate or corner store bodegas in Manhattan, the Empire State’s independent and small business community is feeling the pinch of swipe fees now more than ever before. This status quo is simply untenable, but our leaders in Congress have the chance to fix the problem by passing the popular, bipartisan Credit Card Competition Act, or CCCA.
It’s no stretch to say that swipe fees are one of top expenses for many small businesses. In fact, for some employers swipe fees are the second highest operating expense after paying their workers. Those fees have only been getting higher in recent years,........
