Listen to people and pass packaging act
Beyond Plastics just released a new report, “Follow the Money: The David vs. Goliath Battle to Pass the New York Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act.”
The findings are stark:
• The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act was the first and second most lobbied bill during the final two months of the state legislative session.
• In 2025, industry giants used a 4-to-1 lobbying advantage to block the packaging-reduction bill, with 106 companies lobbying against it and 24 lobbying in support of it.
• 21 of the 50 highest-paid lobbying firms in New York were retained by industry opponents.
• This is despite 73% of New Yorkers supporting packaging reduction across all political parties and regions.
