EDITORIAL: State should go slowly on approval of psilocybin
It’s a giant leap from “magic “ to “may show promise” to “legalizing it for medical use.”
So state lawmakers looking into whether to legalize psilocybin — a compound found in hallucinogenic mushrooms — should slow down the parade until more information on the short- and long-term effects are better known.
It’s understandable why state lawmakers would be excited about the prospect of a new drug that has demonstrated in some people to be effective in negating the symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), cluster headaches, mental illness and late-stage cancer.
