EDITORIAL: Hochul must rededicate herself to transparency
If Gov. Kathy Hochul is going to win re-election, it won’t be because of her most recent positions on legislation designed to make government more open and accessible to citizens.
We need to remind the governor that when she took over for disgraced Gov. Andrew Cuomo upon his resignation in August 2021, she promised that government transparency would be a “hallmark” of her administration. But if her actions toward open government legislation this year are any indication, New Yorkers will be getting more access to records from a Hallmark Christmas movie than her new transparent administration.
We already harshly criticized the governor in October for her veto of an important piece of legislation ((A3425A/S2520B) that would have strengthened the state Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)........
