Attempts by Mike Nesbitt (two) and Doug Beattie to move in a more liberal direction had failed because the party, what’s left of it, didn’t want to move that way.
Instead, it’s going to move further right. So, Creighton asked, where will it slot in? “DUP-lite? DUP, but less angry? TUV but nicer?”
She pointed out that there are plenty of liberal and left-wing unionist voters. “Some people can put their politics on one side and vote DUP/UUP/TUV, but others can’t.”
