Watch live: NTSB briefs reporters on LaGuardia Airport crash probe

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will brief reporters Tuesday afternoon on its probe into the recent deadly crash at LaGuardia International Airport in New York.

Dozens of passengers were injured, and two pilots were killed in the collision between a jet and a fire truck on the LaGuardia runway late Sunday. The Air Canada jet was landing when it struck the emergency vehicle, which was on its way to respond to an incident, according to Kathryn Garcia, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The lack of communication is likely to raise questions around “situational awareness,” according to a former NTSB investigator.

NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy on Monday also said long lines at airport security checkpoints caused by the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown also delayed investigators arriving at the scene.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
