Live updates: Trump set to address economy in Massie’s district, as gas prices keep rising

President Trump on Wednesday hits the road, heading to Kentucky to visit the district of one of few GOP foes: Rep. Thomas Massie.

After a stop in Cincinnati, Trump will cross the Ohio River to visit a packaging plant in Hebron, Ky., in Massie’s 4th Congressional District. The president has endorsed the incumbent’s primary opponent, Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL officer who’s vowing to stick by Trump and “deliver America First results for Kentucky.”

On Capitol Hill, Senate Republicans are divided over how to advance the SAVE America Act amid President Trump’s pressure to hold up other legislation unless it passes. On the House side, the GOP wraps up its annual retreat in Miami. One topic of conversation: The possibility of a second massive spending package as the 2026 midterm elections ramp up.

January inflation data out Wednesday was in line with expectations, though it does not reflect the surge in gas prices since the Feb. 28 start to the military operation in Iran. Gas prices already are up by 5 cents over Tuesday, according to Gas Buddy.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil travels, is the latest flashpoint in the war, with Iran laying mines and the U.S. taking out on Tuesday over a dozen mine-laying Iranian vessels.
