The U.S. resumed strikes on Iran on Sunday, hitting rocket launchers on Larak Island that U.S. Central Command said were ready to deploy mines into the Strait of Hormuz. The United Arab Emirates said Iran retaliated by sending drones toward the American ally.

Oil prices jumped Monday morning upon the return to military action after a monthlong lull.

The Pentagon is fuming over a report in the Washington Post that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was warned two weeks ago by military leaders against extending large-scale Iran war operations.

The House returns to Washington on Monday for a week following a five-week recess. The biggest item on the agenda will be a Senate-passed stopgap measure, also known as a continuing resolution (CR), that would keep the government funded through Dec. 11. The Senate passed the measure 90-6 earlier this month, sending it to a House that had previously passed its own stopgap bill extending funding through Dec. 4. About 85 Americans are still missing in Nepal and Tibet after devastating flash flooding on the border, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said Sunday. Nepal and China have reported 900 deaths and over 4,700 people missing in last week’s disaster.
