Rob Reiner’s son Jake says parents’ death has been ‘living nightmare’
(NewsNation) — Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s eldest son is remembering his parents, saying dealing with their deaths has been a “living nightmare.”
“I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream,” Jake Reiner wrote on his Substack, with a post fittingly titled, “Mom and Dad.”
He recalls receiving a call from his sister Romy on Dec. 14 saying that his parents were dead.
“My world, as I knew it, had collapsed,” he wrote, also adding, “This truly is my living nightmare.”
My parents won’t get to “hold their future grandkids, says Jake
In his Substack, Jake Reiner said he was “robbed of so many things” the day of their deaths.
“My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking,” he wrote. “It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.”
Jake, who is an actor, writer and producer, added that he can only imagine how “frightened” his parents must have been, adding, “They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them.
“They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected, and above all, they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world,” he said.
Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner’s daughter found their bodies
The Reiners were found stabbed to death in their Southern California home after their daughter discovered them.
Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and jailed without bail in connection with the murders.
Documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health stated the couple died within “minutes” of receiving “multiple sharp force injuries” with a “knife, by another.”
In February, Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
His next court date for a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29.
‘Almost too impossible’ dealing with brother’s alleged role
As for his brother, the “Honest Ads” writer is struggling to process his brother’s alleged involvement.
He wrote that he and his sister lost most of their family on that December night in the “most violent way imaginable,” but that having Nick Reiner “be at the center of it. It’s almost too impossible to process.”
Jake Reiner closed his post by asking for “love and compassion” as he and his sister process the ordeal.
