Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) on Friday offered Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) a public vote of confidence, as questions swirl about the former GOP leader’s health and prolonged absence from Congress.

Pressed on whether McConnell should do more to explain his condition to the public, Ernst told journalist Nick Ballasy that a recent letter from his physician and updates to his colleagues should suffice.

“If the people of Kentucky want more, they’ll ask him for more,” she added.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) offered a similar view when asked about McConnell’s potential to return to the Capitol as key votes take place ahead of August recess and beyond.
