Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s surprising win in this week’s Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary, where recent polling had shown him trailing progressive Francesca Hong by double-digits, had catapulted him from a relatively unknown local leader to the national spotlight.
The 40-year-old Wisconsin native became the youngest county executive in Milwaukee County history and the first Black person to hold the office when he was sworn into the role in May 2020.
He is poised to face Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), the GOP nominee with President Trump’s endorsement, in the general election this November.
Moderate and establishment Dems coalesced around Crowley
