Megan Thee Stallion hospitalized after leaving ‘Moulin Rouge’ performance mid-show
MANHATTAN, N.Y. (WPIX) – Rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s Broadway performance in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” was cut short on Tuesday night as she was rushed to a hospital.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper made her Broadway debut last week as nightclub impresario Harold Zidler in the show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, and was expected to conclude her run on May 17.
The 31-year-old rap star shared a video on her social media last week, announcing her debut.
Radio personality Loren Lorosa was among the audience at the Hirschfeld Theatre on Tuesday, and posted on social media that Megan performed well during her opening scenes. Then, midway through the show, an announcement was made, Lorosa said.
“They just stopped Moulin Rouge mid-show apologized to the audience and said … ‘Stay inside and seated,'” Lorosa explained, adding that the show eventually continued with another actor stepping in for Megan.
The rapper’s team has so far revealed that she fell “very ill.”
“During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” her representative, Didier Morais, said in a statement. “We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
Megan has been very vocal about her excitement for her “Moulin Rouge” role, which she was set to play through mid-May. The hip-hop star, known for hits like “Savage” and “WAP” with Cardi B, was apparently off to a strong start, claiming that her appearance boosted overnight ticket sales.
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is slated to close July 26 after a seven-year run. The show is about the goings-on in a turn-of-the-century Parisian nightclub, updated with tunes like “Single Ladies” and “Firework” alongside “Lady Marmalade.”
