Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett conceded to state Rep. James Talarico (D) on Wednesday in their competitive Democratic primary for Senate, pledging to help support his bid for the first statewide win for the party in decades.

“This morning I called James and congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee,” Crockett wrote in a statement shared to the social platform X. “Texas is primed to turn blue and we must remain united because this is bigger than any one person.”

This is about the future of all 30 million Texans and getting America back on track,” she continued. “With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally around our nominees and win.”

The lawmaker added, “I’m committed to doing my part and will continue working to elect democrats up and down the ballot.”

As of Wednesday morning, Talarico was leading with 53 percent to Crockett’s 46 percent, avoiding a May runoff in the Democratic race seen as a test of how best to approach a Senate run in red Texas.

Talarico issued a short statement after outlets called their race after midnight on Wednesday: “We’re about to take back Texas.”

Democrats have struggled for decades to find footing in the Lone Star State, which voted for President Trump by double digits and where Republicans control all statewide seats.

Across the aisle, incumbent Sen. Jon Cornyn (R), who is seeking a fifth term, is headed to a runoff with state Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) after neither won enough support to win outright, stretching out their primary brawl for another 12 weeks.
