Tucker Carlson: Trump expletive-filled Easter post ‘vile on every level’
Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson ripped into President Trump on Monday over a social media post on Easter threatening Iran if the country does not cut a ceasefire deal this week as the U.S. war there rages on.
Trump, in a Truth Social post issued on Easter morning, wrote, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran … There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F——Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
The post was met with widespread criticism, including from Carlson, an ally of the president who has been sharply critical of his war effort in the Middle East.
“Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the F-word on Easter morning,” Carlson asked. “So, obviously you’re mocking the religion of Iran. Ok. If you seek a religious war, that’s a good idea. But by the way, no decent person mocks other people’s religions. You may have a problem with the theology. Presumably, you do if it’s not your religion, and you can explain what that is. But to mock other people’s faith is to mock the idea of faith itself.”
Trump’s message suggests, Carlson argued, he thinks he is God.
“The message of all faith at the biggest picture level is the message in our Bible, which is you are not God. And only if you think you are, do you talk this way,” the pundit continued. “But it’s not just mockery of Islam. And no president should mock Islam. That’s not your job. This is not a theocracy. We don’t go to war with other theocracies to find out which theocracy is more effective. We are not a theocracy. And God willing, we never will be because theocracies corrupt the religion.”
Carlson’s comments, on his podcast and video show, were first highlighted by Mediaite.
Trump has grown increasingly hostile with his remarks about Iran, writing in another social media post early Tuesday, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” if Iran does not agree to a ceasefire deal.
“I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” the president wrote, calling Tuesday night’s deadline “one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World.”
Carlson, who campaigned for Trump in 2024 and has been a vocal supporter of many of his policies, is one of several right-wing media figures who have soured on the president since the war began.
He and others on the right have suggested the U.S. is being influenced by Israel to pursue war in the Middle East, and have warned Trump will come to regret attacking the country.
