Trump says Canada ‘poisoned’ US air with wildfires, floats new tariffs

President Trump on Sunday said Canada “poisoned” U.S. air as smoke from wildfires in the Great White North swept across American states. 

Trump said he spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and told him “you got to stop these fires from coming in and, you know, poisoning our air.” 

Carney and Trump spoke in New Jersey at the World Cup Final. 

“Our air has been poisoned,” the president told reporters at Joint Base Andrews.

He noted that he has a “good relationship” with Carney, “but you know we got to stop the fires up there.”

Smoke from the wildfires that started in mid-June have expanded in July, impacting 100 million Americans across 14 states, according to CBS.
