5 injured, including students, in shooting near the University of Iowa

(NEXSTAR) — Five people, including students from the University of Iowa, were injured after an overnight shooting near the school, according to police, who are now looking to speak with persons of interest.

Police in Iowa City, Iowa, were initially called to an area of East College Street, near the University of Iowa, for a report of a large fight shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. As officers arrived on scene, they reported hearing gunfire, per Nexstar’s WHO.

Authorities have since confirmed that five shooting victims have been identified. As of 10 a.m. Sunday, Iowa City Public Safety reports one of the victims is in critical condition while the others remain stable.

“I am writing to you with a heavy heart,” University of Iowa President Barb Wilson said in a letter to the community on........
