Educational reforms sans planning

The education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is increasingly treated as an experimental field, with policies introduced without adequate preparation, consultation, or ground-level research. Although reform is necessary in the present education system, yet poorly planned initiatives often backfire, causing disorder, disparity, and frustration among students, teachers, and parents simultaneously. Recently, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) introduced a semester system for primary and middle classes up to Grade eight, substituting the long-standing substantiated annual system. According to the official notifications, the province has been divided into summer and winter zones, each with separate academic calendars and semester schedules.

On paper, the reform may appear progressive. However, in practice, it has created serious inconsistency. One of the biggest problems is the contradiction between government institutions and private schools. Many private institutions have continued their traditional April session, while government schools are expected to follow the newly introduced semester-based calendar.........
