With Speaker Uchral’s Trip, Mongolia and Russia Look to Expand Economic Links
Officials from the Mongolian government have repeatedly visited Moscow in search of energy guarantees, assistance in fuel storage, and accelerating bilateral cooperation.
Mongolian Speaker Uchral Nyam-Osor attends the Mongolia-Russia Business Forum in Moscow, Russia, Feb. 11, 2026.
Uchral Nyam-Osor, the speaker of the Mongolian Parliament, the State Great Khural, paid a working visit to Moscow, Russia, on February 9-12. Since Zandanshatar Gombojav became the prime minister in June 2025, officials from his government have been visiting Moscow in search of energy guarantees, assistance in fuel storage, and accelerating bilateral cooperation mechanisms under the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership. Uchral’s trip to Moscow marked his first foreign travel since taking office in November 2025.
On February 9, Uchral addressed the Mongolia-Eurasian Economic Union’s business dialogue session. During his remarks, he highlighted Mongolia’s recent free trade deal with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as a key mechanism for Ulaanbaatar to reach diverse investment and trade opportunities. While the agreement is time-limited, it marks a significant step in Mongolia’s broader efforts to diversify its economic partnerships and expand access to regional markets – particularly at a time of increasing geopolitical complexity and economic volatility.
