Professor Allegedly Invents Grand Prize For Himself, Tricks Noam Chomsky Amid Years-Long Scheme

French academic Florent Montaclair won the Gold Medal of Philology — an award equivalent in prestige to the Nobel Prize — in 2016. 

The ceremony was held at the National Assembly in Paris and was attended by former government ministers and eminent academics, according to French language newspaper L’Est Republicain. Montaclair reportedly held a roundtable with eight French Nobel laureates during his Paris trip. 

Montaclair’s new contacts were unaware of a slight conflict of interest: Montaclair happened to be the inventor of the Gold Medal of Philology award. 

The award was presented by the International Society of Philology, associated with the University of Philology and Education in Lewes, Delaware. Montaclair........
