New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order “protecting tenants from rental ripoffs and abusive landlord practices” in early January. To that end, Mamdani established “Rental Ripoff Hearings,” public hearings for tenants to air their grievances with their landlords.

Of course, in true collectivist fashion, only testimony from private housing tenants will be permitted. Allegations of “abusive landlord practices” directed at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will be unwelcome. NYCHA is the largest public housing authority in North America, with over half a million tenants — about one in 16 New Yorkers.
