A heartbreaking story out of New York City got me thinking about parenting styles and whether you should let your kids run amok in the world, which seems increasingly dangerous, or keep them on a shorter leash.

Tragically, two teenage girls were found dead on top of a subway Saturday morning. The girls had been “subway surfing,” which in New York City entails riding on top of a train, usually for social media clout, when they were killed.
