Why are people attracted to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)? A more important question is, why shouldn’t they be?

To most people who remember the Soviet Union, the Berlin Wall, the Mariel Boatlift, the Killing Fields of Cambodia, the Cultural Revolution, etc., the idea that anyone could be attracted to socialism makes no sense. It has failed everywhere it’s been tried and has immiserated its peoples.

So why do so many young Americans seem enamored by the siren’s song of socialism? Perhaps because government has failed them. (RELATED: What’s Really Going On With The Left?)

The terrorist attacks of 9/11 and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan showed national defense to be lacking, despite trillions of dollars spent. The financial collapse of 2008-2009 followed by a sluggish economy showed that the “too big to fail” crowd got bailouts while working stiffs got foreclosed on. The George Floyd riots, pandemic and a flood of illegal immigration showed domestic tranquility to be lacking.

Millennials were promised bright futures for graduating college, only to be crushed by student debt. The Baby Boomers hold the bulk of the wealth in America, and continue to consume like locusts, making housing prices surge as they pay cash on second homes, outbidding young couples on their first homes.

Now, Artificial Intelligence threatens their future jobs, and Social Security will be insolvent in six years.

The constitutional purpose of our government is to establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure liberty.
