Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski announced Monday that they met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday to smooth over their rocky relationship. However, some fans — and even a prominent colleague at MSNBC — are outraged by their decision to meet with a man they previously compared to Adolf Hitler. “We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so,” Scarborough explained Monday morning.

“What we did agree on, was to restart communications,” Brzezinski added. “Joe and I realized it’s time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him.”

Scarborough then made it abundantly clear that their meeting to smooth over and normalize their relationship with the Orange Dictator was not about normalizing the Orange Dictator.

“Don’t be mistaken. We are not here to defend or normalize Donald Trump,” he told viewers. “We are here to report on him.”
