When we think about the beauty of mountains, we imagine snow-capped peaks, winding treks, and postcard-perfect views. What we often don’t picture is the quiet, constant struggle of living at such extreme altitudes, where the weather can turn in minutes, and survival is never guaranteed.

For travellers passing through the rugged terrain of Lahaul-Spiti, the journey is often about adventure. But when roads close, temperatures plummet, and help feels miles away, that adventure can quickly turn into uncertainty. 

In those moments, what people look for is not a view but a safe place to rest, to warm up, to simply make it through the night.

And at 11,000 feet, that safety comes from an unlikely place.
