Market revolution or the price the Saints have to pay? Unpacking the historic Nasiah deal
A heady new era of AFL player wages is upon us with St Kilda’s $2 million-a-year mega deal to retain emerging superstar Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera.
Wanganeen-Milera’s agent, Ben Williams, informed Port Adelaide and Adelaide on Monday that his client was re-signing at Moorabbin for another two seasons, after which there will almost certainly be a fresh bidding war for his services.

The 22-year-old – the No.11 selection in the 2021 draft out of Glenelg – will be out of contract again in 2027, but won’t be a free agent until the end of 2029 (at the earliest).
Wanganeen-Milera graduated this year from dashing defender and resident kick-in specialist to match-winning midfielder in a stunning breakout season that helped make him the league’s first $2 million man.
They are the numbers being thrown around for West Coast’s in-demand No.1 pick Harley Reid, whether he stays in Perth or returns to Victoria, but Wanganeen-Milera beat him and everyone else to the milestone.
The Saints were one of a long list of Victorian clubs keen on Reid – and would have to spend a similar amount to be in the mix. They had previously pursued Luke Davies-Uniacke and Finn Callaghan before they re-signed at North Melbourne and GWS, respectively.
