Swindon Town stunning goal shows life without Harry Smith

Aaron Drinan’s opening goal for Swindon Town against Shrewsbury Town gave reason to believe in life after Harry Smith.

Last week was an exceptionally trying one for Swindon. If the dour display against Barnet was not bad enough, the player everything was built around suffered a devastating injury. Think what you like about Swindon’s displays this season, but Smith dug them out of a very big hole last season, and then when they became a genuinely very good team towards the end of the campaign, it was all based around him. Good teams can be carved in his image.

That giant of a man had an even bigger impact on those around him at both ends of the pitch.

The difficulty of that, and also losing James Ball for two months, gave the inexperienced bunch two days to perform a bigger pivot than Archimedes was after to cater for losing........
