Swindon Town showed vision of future with pressing display
Swindon Town not only emphatically won a late-season dead rubber against Fleetwood Town, but they also demonstrated a way forward next season.
As people desperately search for meaning in the final games of the season, fans have been looking to see things put in place which can be carried forward into next season from a squad in which many may not be doing that.
As the strong travelling support basked in the afternoon sun on the Fylde Coast following a magnificent away victory, Ian Holloway’s post-match comments were very telling. Instead of waxing lyrical about the four goals which were scored, the 62-year-old focused immediately on what his side had done without the ball and the effort they had put in.
Now, the basic defensive stats have been higher this season than the 17 tackles, 11 interceptions, 51 recoveries, and 68 defensive actions which Town recorded at Fleetwood, but this was an excellent performance........
