Swindon Town put in worst display of 2025 in loss to Barnet

Swindon Town put in quite possibly their worst performance of the calendar year against Barnet, but it was not a display that came out of nowhere.

I don’t think anyone would argue against the statement that the debacle against Barnet was Swindon’s worst performance of 2025. That is partially because this year has been a vast improvement on the ones that have preceded it, but it was a display that would not have felt out of place in the back half of 2024.

The sense of dejection after the match felt very similar to the lull after Morecambe last season. Back then, Swindon were fighting for their survival, as opposed to being four games into a campaign that was meant to be spent at the other end of the table.

After 20 minutes, it felt like Swindon would be able to win the match just by capitalising on the errors that Barnet kept making at the back. Harry Smith, Aaron Drinan, and Darren Oldaker were all gifted openings that never quite came to fruition.
